Our Journey to a Family

Our Journey to a family didn't go exactly as we played.

We met.
We fell in love.

We got married.

And then.... nothing.

For most couples next comes the baby in a baby carriage.  But we took a detour through the land of infertility.

Infertility is a complex issue that affects 1 in 8 couples.  It is an isolating and terrifying experience full of uncertainty and self doubt.  We experienced it all.  Our journey to our twin boys took us a year of start and stop and then 31 months of continuous trying and medical intervention.  Our whole TTC Journey can be found here.  Although we now have our family, the scars of infertility run deep and I am still infertile and have to deal with all of the medical ramifications of my infertility diagnoses.

After our successful IVF, my pregnancy with twin boys was not easy.  Each week brought uncommon problems (OHSS, SCH, and cholestasis being the big three) followed by pre-term labor at just 33 weeks when my water broke.  Our weekly pregnancy journey is outlined here.  The boys spent three weeks in the NICU (read more here) before coming home.

When the boys were just 10 months old, we received a surprise.  We were pregnant again.  Against all medical odds and in complete disregard to medical science, God blessed us with a third little boy! We are so blessed as family of five and love our Crazy (Cass) Life!

  1. Wow - thank you for sharing! I Hope to share about our journey with infertility soon, as well, but I'm still pretty new to blogging, so hopefully it wont' be too much longer before I get there. :)
