{who} i blog

The first step in my little blog's journey to an adult blog was figuring out why I blog and what I blog about. The next step is determining who this little blog is. It needs a name!

When Casey and I got married (8 years ago!) we had a wedding website, the now nonexistent www.caseyandalexis.com. I started blogging when that site was still active and so it only made sense that the blog address was caseyandalexis.blogspot.com. It has been years since we deleted the wedding webpage and this little blog has had multiple rebirths since then. Luckily with blogger you can quickly change a blog name without changing it's address, which is what I have done.

Well now this blog is going to grow up. It's time to become a fully named adult blog. So, the web address being xxxxx.blogspot.com is no longer going to work. The blog is going to get its own domain! It is also get a big girl makeover and a new name.

I'm really struggling to choose a name for the blog. I actually haven't chosen one yet. But I do have a few tried a true naming rules...

Actually it's just one rule. If the first google result for the name is a pornstar, walk away and choose a new name. Two of my first thoughts for a blog name? Porn names. So basically I learned that Alexis shouldn't be in the name anywhere.

But more seriously, naming a blog is really hard work.  I find myself stressing over whether a name conveys the right message, represents our family, represents what I write about, and will be a good long term choice.  Here are the rules I went with:

  • It should fit for a while. While I love the idea of a twins+one or 3in18months name, what happens if we ever have a fourth child?  A blog name shouldn't be temporary. It should be expandable and not focused on this particular season (so no names about babies or toddlers since *tear* they will grow up).
  • It should be easy to say and spell so it can quickly be shared with others. I rarely find myself talking about my blog and needing to say the blog name, but when I do I want something that people can say and spell.  Some of the "play on names" that I like don't fit this criteria.
  • It should have an available .com. Other .extensions exist but it is important to me that I get the .com address
  • It should be searchable.  When you search my blog name I don't want you finding a porn star.
  • It should be available on other social media. I am actually a bit torn on this one.  I want a name that is mine and I want to own and cultivate my brand.  For this to happen, no one else can be tweeting or instagramming under my name.  I want to claim them.  To be honest though, I'm not completely sure I'll use them.  I like my twitter and instagram handle.  I already have consistency across them.  I used my name (@LexyJill -- first name Alexis but called Lexy and middle name Jill).  It's a good handle.  However, I do want to own my brand so I want to lay claim to the blog name on social media.
  • It needs done.  I'm overthinking this.  I know I am.  I can't begin design work and transfer work until I make a choice. So a choice needs made.  A domain is better than no domain so I need to get this little party started! But I feel like the perfect name is still floating out there and I just haven't thought of it yet.  I know this is just a classic case of overthinking. In the spirit of overthinking it....

Here are the names I have considered.  The highlighted ones are still in the running.  Do you have a favorite?  Do you have a suggestion I haven't considered?
