Week 19

Marination Time:
Baby Size:
The Bump says that in Week 19 Pip and Pop have become little mangoes, while BabyCenter compares the twins to heirloom tomatoes. The average baby their age would be 6.0 inches and 8.5 ounces. Since Pip measured 9 ounces a week ago, we can fairly safely assume he is still ahead of that measurement. Pop was also ahead last week, measuring 8 ounces in week 18 instead of 7 ounces. Another way to think of their size is like a softball, as explained to Casey by His Boys Can Swim.
Baby Milestones:
Pip and Pop are now proportionally correct. Their arms and legs have caught up to the body by now. They are gaining leaps and bounds in sensory development, with the brains designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. The development of these nerve cells in pretty neat stuff! They are also developing a baby lotion in utero that helps their skin deal with all of the amniotic fluid they are hanging out in. This coating, called vernix caseosa, is greasy and white and will stop Pip and Pop from coming out with water-logged pruny skin. Most of the time this coating is gone by the time the baby is born, but with preemies (which twins are higher risk for) you can frequently see it at the birth.
Round ligament pain. Bloody noses. Not eating. Trouble getting a good deep breath. Exhaustion.
How I'm Changing:
Still growing. Still not feeling movement. Still able to tell the babies have moved after the fact because my belly shape keeps changing!
What I'm Eating:
Red meat. Cereal. Peanut Butter. Not enough.
Trying to choose names! So much pressure.
I am also frustrated by people who make rude comments when they find out we are having two boys. I am thrilled to be a BoyMom and totally okay with both being the same sex. I don't think having one of each makes the "perfect family" and I'm not disappointed. Any more questions?
Doing better sleeping. Still always tired though.
Nothing comes to mind this week.
Belly Button Watch:
Still an Innie!!!!!!!! (Too many exclamation points? Nah!!! This is exciting!!!)
What I'm most excited about
Now that we know the Pip and Pop are both boys, I have started planning our nursery! I have a theme and a color scheme, now I'm working on fabrics. You can see my inspiration rooms and a few decorations I am loving off of etsy here. We have also received our first few baby gifts! Thank y'all so much for all of your support and love. You guys are amazing! Of course, I was totally unprepared for that and don't have baby thank you notes yet. I ordered them today and will hopefully have them by the end of the week. For those of you asking, I have "rough drafts" of our registry which you can read more about here, or go to the sites by clicking the Baby Registries button on the header bar.
