The good, the bad, the disgustingly ugly

The Good: Misadventures of a Newlywed is doing an incredible Lilly giveaway! You should all go check it out!

The Bad:  I'm skipping my first class of my graduate career tonight.  Not a good thing to start!

The Ugly (and Nasty):  Remember on Monday when I posted about taking Casey to the hospital because he had such a bad stomach bug?  Remember on Tuesday when I sadly posted that I had caught it (but luckily mine wasn't so bad?  I was wrong.  I don't know what I had on Tuesday - but now I have really caught the bug Casey had.  At the risk of TMI, lets just say that I didn't leave the bathroom from 1AM to almost 6AM.  At that point I decided I could handle the walk to the bed.  It's 8:40PM and I've spent the entire day today either in bed or on the bathroom floor.  Not pretty.  Not pretty at all.

Free Advice

Before wearing slippers outside to get the newspaper, check for ice.

Especially if class has been cancelled two days in a row due to the ice storm.

If not, you will may take a tumble in front of… perhaps a bevy of teenagers hanging outside your house.  Slippers have no traction at all.

Not that I have any experience with this.

(But I do own the great husky slippers seen above.  And I'm not ashamed to get the paper while wearing them.)

Heartbroken

R.I.P.  Domino magazine.  You'll be missed.

I've been buying you off the stands for a long time now.  I finally get a subscription (I have great in-laws!) and you close down.

With Blueprint, House and Garden, O at Home, Domino and Cottage Living all gone where is a girl to get great decorating ideas?

Guess whos class is cancelled tonight?

If you guessed me then you are correct!

UTD hasn't cancelled classes (yet) but my professor just sent us all an email letting us know that she wouldn't be at class.  I don't normally get excited about cancelled classes (I'm the weird nerdy kid who likes class) but today is different.

It isn't like I have anything fun to do today.

No.  I'm sitting at home sick.  Watching the end of 24 Season 5.

That's right.  Sick. My husband shared.

He isn't on my favorite person list at the moment.

It doesn't make it any better that he's still sick and pathetic.  That just means that I have to go get my own gatorade out of the fridge.

What a morning.

I just got back from the hospital.  Ick.  Casey caught a pretty nasty stomach bug and get really dehydrated last night.  The hospital gave him 3 liters of fluid through an IV as well as some medication and sent us on our way home with the happy news that the bug needed to run its course.  Yay.  So it seems all I can do is pray that I don't come down with the same bug.

You like me!

Thank you so much for all of your kind words while I was gone - and your encouragement now that I'm back!  I got two awards in the last few days since my return.  This must be what the Prodigal Son felt like.
KLC at Tales of a Northern Belle gave me the Honest Scrap award.

And Kristy at The Hall Family gave me The Great Attitude/ Gratitude Award.

Thanks girls!

So here are the rules:

The Honest Scrap Award:
Here are the rules:
Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.Show the 7 winners names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with "Honest Scrap." Well, there's no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon. Then, list at least 10 honest things about yourself.

1.  I live in a permanent state of cold.  I wear under armour and hot chillys under my jeans in winter.  In Dallas.  When I tell people I was born in New Jersey they don't believe me.
2.  I am the youngest in my family.  By A LOT.  My sister is 14 years older than me.  My brother is 10 years older than me.
3.  My husband is also the youngest in his family.  By A LOT.  His oldest brother is 14 years older.  His middle brother is 10 years older than him.  Coincidence?  I think not!
4.  I am obsessed with my phone.  It isn't that my phone is particularly nice.  It isn't.  But any little device that lets me check my e-mail, facebook, etc. all while I sit and wait in a waiting room is fantastic!
5.  I love shoes.  I mean I really love shoes.  I at one point owned over 300 pairs of shoes.  Since my ankle surgery I've been slowly getting rid of all of my heels because I can't wear them.  I am ashamed to admit that I no longer find my merrells, keens, or other "comfy" shoes so ugly.
6.  I claim that I never drink soda.  But occasionally I take sips of my husbands Dr. Pepper or Root Beer.
7.  I love night time soap operas.  It started with Grey's Anatomy.  Then my love just kept growing.  I now DVR Greek, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Brothers and Sisters, Private Practice, 90210, Dirty Sexy Money, Lipstick Jungle, Ugly Better, and The Starter Wife.  I truly love my DVR! (If only I had time to watch all of these shows!  Our DVR keep getting fuller and fuller and I am completely unable to catch up.)
8.  I have watched all three seasons of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team and now I am totally compelled to watch The Bachelor to see how Melissa does.  She is so cute!
9.  I love photography but I'm not very good at it.  I would love to take a photography class at some point and learn basics of lighting and angles and such.  Do you think a photography class would teach me how to be more photogenic?
10. I got scared during The Lion King.  And Anastasia.  And Finding Nemo.  I don't do well in tense moments and have been known to draw blood (my poor husband!)  Needless to say - we don't see scary movies.  Ever.

I've been gone for a while, so I don't know who has received these awards yet.  I pass them along to anyone who hasn't gotten them yet!

To make you all feel better....

The blog isn't the only part of my life that has been neglected that last few weeks.  I am a firm believer in the 12 days of Christmas - meaning Christmas decorations come down January 6 and not a day before.  However this is excessive.

My house still looks like this:

If only my tree had more red I could try and pull it off as Valentine's decor.  But it doesn't.  So I can't.  It just looks pretty ridiculous to have a Christmas tree up at the end of January.

I'm Back. I Think.

So after a month long absence I'm back. I think.

I'm so sorry I've been gone for so long.

A brief update of my life since Christmas:
1) Casey got me pearl earrings for Christmas to match the necklace I wore for our wedding.
2) I turned 24 on December 31. It was a fantastic birthday with friends in from out of town.
3) On the 3rd we went to an engagement party for my best friend Liz and her fiancee Paul. It was fantastic seeing all of the McKinney folks - now that I don't live their or go to church their I miss all of them!
4) Casey started his third module. He's making progress towards his MBA!
5) I had graduate orientation for my PhD. I sat next to the annoying kid who asked ridiculous questions. "Is there wireless on campus?" "Yes" a few minutes later "Is there wireless in the library?" a few minutes later "Is there wireless in the Student Union" etc.
6) I started classes towards my PhD. I'm taking 9 hours this semester and am so excited to have started classes towards my dream! I'm taking two public policy seminars and a statistics course this semester and between classes and the seminars and lectures each week I am busy!
7) Casey and I met up with four friends in Crested Butte, CO for MLK weekend and had an incredible time. We skied, snowmobiled, sat by the fire, ate great food, tubed, drank wine/beer in the hot tub, and just all around had fun! It was so hard coming back to Dallas (and reality) after that!
