Salmon Cakes

I occasionally ask Casey if he has dinner suggestions and he is normally pretty predictable.  He likes roast, meatloaf, steaks, ribs, anything on the grill, sometimes he suggests spaghetti - all normal things.

Occasionally I get thrown for a loop.

A few times over the past few years he has mentioned wanting salmon cakes.  I've had crab cakes, but never salmon cakes.  I tried googling a recipe and they are all over the board. I called my MIL to ask for the recipe - and she doesn't remember making them.  Aye Carumba!

So in my quest to occasionally be a good wife I am looking for a recipe for salmon cakes.  Has anyone made these?  Eaten these?  Can you tell me anything about them?

  1. Hahahaha, I love those totally bizarre requests. My husband sent me searching all over the world for some weird casserole. Totally strange. Then I found the recipe and wanted to throw up looking at what all was in it. No thanks. I think I made lasagna instead :)

As for the salmon cakes, I have never even heard of them! Let us know if you get a good recipe though.

  4. I've had salmon patties with canned salmon or the salmon that comes in the little bags...they're pretty good, I think the recipe is very similar to tuna patties (assuming you've heard of those?) I'm looking for my recipe now, but I'm having trouble finding it...I'll comment again once I do!

  5. Yes! My Grandma used to make tuna patties all the time, so salmon patties are really exactly the same! I'll see if my Mom has the recipe and get back to you! :) Yummy!

  7. Actually, I just remembered, my Grandma used to make these for me!

Just bake some salmon (or use the canned stuff), and mix it with onion powder, fresh garlic, some different herbs like oregano and dill, thyme and bay leaves, season to taste and form into patties. Fry them on the skillet (sort of like a burger) and they are ready to go! Man, I am going to make some TONIGHT! YUM!

  8. I LOVE salmon cakes! When I have made them more recently I buy the salmon that comes in the flat pouch rather than the can. It's much less messy and doesn't have bones in it.

I think the recipe is actually on the back of the pouch...

Mix with breadcrumbs, an egg, seasoning. Form into patties and cook on top of a skillet. YUM! They are good with a lemon mayo type dressing....or just plain ketchup :)

  9. My grandmother and mom used to always make these. If he is from around here, he might like the kind that uses canned salmon and cracker crumbs. (If he keeps the L in salmon then I bet he'd love em ha) Let me know and I will send you my mom's recipe.
