"You stand in class and tell us to look beyond the image, but you don't. To you a housewife is someone who sold her soul for a center hall colonial. She has no depth, no intellect, no interests. You're the one who said I could do anything I wanted. This is what I want."
I've talked about Mona Lisa Smile before and really think it is a fantastic movie. Katherine Watson spends the movie encouraging students to believe in themselves, have a career, and be independent women, but she has her own set of barriers. She argues that women should have the choice to have a career and not be relegated to "just" housewives and mothers, but doesn't understand that being a housewife is also a choice. And it's my choice.
A housewifes Saturday looks a lot like anyone elses; here is my plan for my day!
8:00AM: woke up and saw husband off to class (he is getting his MBA part-time at SMU)
9:00: finished my laundry -- dryer is working again - no idea what was wrong with it yesterday
10:00: walked with the dog
11:00: shower and get ready
12:00: Casey gets home from class/ Grandma and Grandpa Parker arrive to see our new house / lunch with the family
3:00: a bit of free time with my husband (run errands, sit and talk, go to gym - not sure yet!)
5:00 tailgating starts!!!!
7:00 Battle for the Iron Skillet.
Yep its that time of year again - the SMU/TCU game. The SMU/TCU rivalry began in 1915. After WWII a traveling trophy, called the Iron Skillet, was born. The teams have played each almost every year since 1915 (they didn't play in 1987-88 when SMU didn't have a team due to the death penalty or in 2006) and even though the SMU team hasn't been too hot recently (below 0.500) and TCU has consistently gone to bowl games, it is always a fun game to go to. And of course we will always have memories. In 2005, SMU beat TCU 21-10 the week after TCU upset Oklahoma (the number 1 ranked team in the country). The loss to SMU was the only loss TCU had that year - and we Ponies cherished it! SMU football has a long way to go. We ended last season with only one win, but we are energized and ready for a new season with our new coach, June Jones! So far this season the Mustangs are 1-2, but we started the season with some of our hardest games.
